Providing power to your Tailgate is a true game changer. With power you can add a TV, upgrade your speaker system, add a fan for the hot afternoon Tailgates, plug in an electric grill and for the cooler night games even plug in a coffee maker to give you the warm caffeine boost to make it through the 4th quarter.

Power Options:

There are two main options for supplying power to your Tailgate: Gas and Battery powered generators.

Gas Generators:

The absolute tried and proven power option is a gas-powered generator made specifically for Camping/Tailgating. These generators are made to supply the power you need while keeping the noise level of the generator to a minimum while it runs.

Multiple Brands and Size Options Available: You have several size options in this category and strong competition with multiple proven brands allowing you the flexibility to find the size you need at a price that will fit most budgets.

Scaleable Power: Many Tailgate Generators allow you to connect two smaller units together (run in parallel) and basically double your available power. This is a nice option for Tailgaters who want to add a TV but are on a budget and want to start with one smaller generator that will power your TV setup but will also provide the future option to expand your available power by adding in a second smaller generator. Think about adding in more lighting, a coffee maker, fan or better sound system. The beauty is you’re not stuck. You have options that build from your initial generator investment. Simply make sure the generator you choose has the parallel capability upfront when you purchase to avoid an unpleasant surprise when you are ready to expand your power.

Noise Levels: Make sure you pick a generator that is designed to produce low noise levels while running. Standard generators are far too noisy for a Tailgate and a quiet run generator is a must have. Acceptable noise levels for a quiet run generator are 50-60 decibels which is 20 to 30 decibels less than a standard portable generator.

Battery Generators:

While generators have typically been powered by gas engines, battery powered generators provide electricity from large rechargeable batteries. While battery generators are silent and there is no messy gas refill required, you have to pay close attention to the battery capacity and
runtime these generators will provide based on your Tailgate’s specific electronic loads. Unlike gas powered generators, there is no easy/inexpensive refuel option available and you do not want to be left without power in the middle of a key matchup!

Multiple Brands and Size Options Available: Like gas generators, you have several manufacturer and size options available in this category, however as with electric cars, the technology is newer and you will a pay a high price to move to this option.

Noise-Level: Since there is no running engine on a battery powered generator there is zero noise. No engine also means no gas and oil changes required however it also means that you are limited to the charge you bring with you so if you run out of juice, you are out of luck. Make sure you size the battery generator correctly to support your wattage needs considering the time frame you want to run. Constant power drains can empty the battery quickly and you don’t want to lose power in the middle of a key game.
